Photographer-owned advice
Photo booth versus selfie station
A selfie station is compact and digital-first. A studio-style booth is built around controlled photographs, larger groups, prints, and an attendant. Choose the experience you actually want.
Define the products
A selfie station is usually a tablet; a photo booth can be a small studio
A selfie station typically combines a tablet camera, touchscreen, compact light, and digital sharing in one freestanding unit. It is quick to install and can fit where a complete photographic setup cannot.
A studio-style photo booth uses a dedicated camera, lens, portrait light, backdrop, computer, printer, and attendant. The larger footprint supports camera distance, group composition, consistent output, and real-time production.
Compare what changes
Compact convenience trades against photographic control
A tablet near the guest often uses a wide lens that can distort edge faces. A built-in ring light is efficient but has limited size and direction. Digital output can be immediate, though venue connectivity may affect delivery.
A larger booth can use a more flattering lens and soft light, photograph bigger groups, and make physical prints. It takes longer to install, needs more room, and usually costs more because more equipment and labor are involved.
- Selfie station: small footprint, digital-first, simple interaction
- Studio booth: better camera control, larger groups, physical prints
- Selfie station: often unattended or lightly staffed
- Studio booth: active attendant and production workflow
Match the event
Choose a selfie station for convenience; choose a studio for the photographs
A casual daytime gathering, retail kiosk, or long-duration installation may value compact digital access. A wedding, gala, or company party may place more value on flattering light, shared group portraits, dependable printing, and an edited gallery.
Neither label guarantees quality. Ask to see complete galleries and outputs from the exact product being quoted.

Make sure the price comparison includes the same promises
Compare active hours, setup, staffing, backdrop, props, print quantity, gallery resolution, travel, insurance, and backup equipment. A low headline price for a digital kiosk is not a lower price for a staffed print studio; it is a different service.
Choose based on the guest experience and artifact you want at the end. The enclosure design matters far less than the light, lens, flow, and delivery.
